Welcome to Alaska Women for Political Action
Who are we?
AWPA is a multi-partisan, multi-cultural grassroots organization.
We are dedicated to increasing women’s participation in the political arena and creating a political power base designed to achieve equality for women. Through recruiting, training and financial contributions, the AWPA provides support to women candidates running for all levels of office regardless of political affiliation.
Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings.
AWPA meets on the
first Tuesday of every month.
Our Mission
Alaska Women for Political Action’s Goals are:
- to increase women’s participation in the political process;
- to increase the number of feminist women in elected and appointed positions;
- to win equality for women; and
- to support candidates who support our goals.
In pursuit of these goals, AWPA is dedicated to the eradication of sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, ageism, violence, poverty, discrimination against the disabled, and discrimination on the basis of religion, and to ensuring reproductive freedom and freedom of sexual orientation.
Baseline Goals

We support the proposition that no rights or privileges of any person shall be denied on the basis of sex.

We support a woman’s right to reproductive freedom, meaning that the woman, not the government, holds the right to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy, and support public funding for adequate access to birth control information and abortion-related services for low-income women.

We support childcare programs through local, state, and federal funding. We support efforts to increase the availability of quality childcare services.
